What 200 Canadian financial services job postings say the business analyst role has become
We analyzed 200 Canadian BA roles to map current market needs. Access this brief report for insights on core skills, salary scales, and top firms hiring now.
How this report was built
We distilled data from 200 active Canadian BA job postings in September 2026, encompassing financial firms and finance units in other industries, such as treasury and ERP. The study focused on hubs like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary, auditing each for duties, skills, and pay.
Note: This reflects employer requests, not daily operations or hiring guarantees. Salary data is limited to disclosed figures and provides market context rather than personal predictions.
The eight key findings
01 · Generalists are gone. Employers now seek individuals who can simultaneously handle SQL, interface specs, and ledger entries.
02 · Toronto dominates. Over 75% of roles are in the GTA, with Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary trailing as smaller hubs.
03 · High-demand workstreams. Modernization, ISO 20022, regulatory remediation, and automated reconciliation drive the current market.
04 · High technical bar. Simple SQL familiarity is insufficient; employers require years of hands-on experience with complex querying and validation.
05 · Domain expertise is vital. Financial specialization is now a mandatory requirement rather than a preferred asset in most postings.
06 · Practical AI use. Companies want BAs who use AI tools for documentation and process analysis, not for advanced data science.
07 · Broad pay ranges. Base salaries span $50,100 to $152,000, plus variable bonuses of up to 25% for senior-level practitioners.
08 · Beyond Finance firms. Corporate finance teams in non-financial sectors seek identical skill sets with significantly less candidate competition.
